Football Recap: Tripp Smith's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Madison Central over Brookhaven

Madison Central fought the good fight in their overtime match against Brookhaven on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 20-17. The Jaguars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Several Jaguars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tripp Smith, who threw for 276 yards and one TD. 121 of those passing yards were hauled in by Landon Hathorn.

Leading Brookhaven to victory were Caiden Quarles and Jaden Allen. Quarles rushed for 159 yards and one touchdown while picking up 8.8 yards per carry, while Allen rushed for 77 yards and a pair of scores. Allen really tore up the turf during one magnificent 80-yard run.

Madison Central now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Brookhaven, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 3-0.

Madison Central wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 31-24 win against Northwest Rankin on the 19th. As for Brookhaven, they have also already played their next game, an 18-16 loss against McComb on the 19th.
