Football Game Preview: Golden West Trailblazers vs. Mt. Whitney Pioneers

Golden West is 7-1 against Mt. Whitney since October of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Trailblazers will take on the Pioneers at 7:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Golden West has five straight wins, Mt. Whitney has ten straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Golden West barely beat Tehachapi the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Trailblazers breezed past the Warriors to the tune of 32-3 on Friday. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Trailblazers' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 191st, while the Warriors are ranked 404th).

It was another big night for Jayden Najera, who threw for 417 yards and four TDs. Those 417 passing yards gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Bre Marroquin, who rushed for 71 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Mt. Whitney scored first but ultimately less than Reedley in their game on Friday. They fell 20-16 to the Pirates. While the Pioneers didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Pirates 8-0 in the first quarter.

Mt. Whitney's defeat dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Golden West, their victory bumped their record up to 5-0.

Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's matchup: Golden West has been excellent in the air this season, having averaged 282.8 passing yards per game. It's a different story for Mt. Whitney, though, as they've been averaging only 76.8 passing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant passing game?

Everything came up roses for Golden West against Mt. Whitney in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 48-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trailblazers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
