Baseball Recap: Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter Takes a Loss

Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter had lost 11 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 2-10 to make it 12. They lost 10-0 to the University Trailblazers. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

As for University, the win got them back to even at 8-8. The victory continues a trend for them in their matchups with Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter: they've now won five in a row.

For University's part, Finn Steiner looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

On the hitting side, Cooper Cammack and Ryan Castetter did most of the damage at the plate: Cammack went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run, while Castetter went 2-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base. Castetter is becoming a predictor of University's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 6-3 (and 2-5 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Charlie Ranek, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Looking ahead, Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter will be playing in front of their home fans against Speedway at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for University, they will venture away from home to face off against Seton Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Trailblazers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cardinals have averaged an impressive 7.5 runs per game this season.
