Basketball Recap: Deshler Comes Up Short

After flying high against Sterling last Thursday, Deshler came back down to earth. The match between the Deshler Dragons and the Southern Raiders didn't end well, with the Deshler Dragons falling 60-41. The Dragons were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Raiders apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

When it comes to explaining why Deshler lost on Saturday, don't look at Carson Sieber. Despite the final result, he went 7 for 11 on his way to 15 points and three steals. Brent Buescher was another key player, putting up nine points.

Even though they lost, Deshler smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in four consecutive contests.

Deshler's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Southern, their victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Deshler will venture away from home to face off against Heartland at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Deshler is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.8 points per game this season. As for Southern, they will head out to take on Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer on Saturday.
