Basketball Game Preview: Benedictine Cadets vs. Wayne County Yellow Jackets

Benedictine is 5-0 against Wayne County since January of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Saturday. Having just played yesterday, the Benedictine Cadets will head out on the road to face off against the Wayne County Yellow Jackets at 3:30 p.m. One thing working in Benedictine's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last six contests.

Benedictine is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Ware County just ended the team's five-game winning streak on Friday. They fell 69-60 to the Gators. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Cadets came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 30th, while the Gators are ranked 92nd).

Benedictine might have lost, but man, Caleb Jones was a machine: he went 10 of 17 en route to 24 points and eight rebounds. Jones is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last 42 games he's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Stephen Cannon, who posted 11 points and six boards.

Wayne County got their first taste of in-conference action this week and they started things off strong. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Perry on Friday, sneaking past 49-46. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Yellow Jackets as it put an end to their eight-game losing streak.

Wayne County's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-12. As for Benedictine, their defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 14-3.

Benedictine took their win against Wayne County in their previous matchup two weeks ago by a conclusive 73-51. The rematch might be a little tougher for Benedictine since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
