Softball Game Preview: New Prairie Cougars vs. Penn Kingsmen

For the second straight game, New Prairie will face off against Penn. The Cougars will face off against the Kingsmen at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. New Prairie is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.

Tuesday just wasn't the day for New Prairie's offense. They fell 3-0 to Penn on Tuesday. The Cougars have struggled against the Kingsmen recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.

Ava Geyer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 13 consecutive appearances.

Penn pushed their record up to 16-3 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for New Prairie, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 9-1 and their overall record down to 17-6.

Both New Prairie and Penn just can't seem to miss. The Cougars have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.7 hits per game.
