Basketball Recap: Matthias Salas' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Dexter over Hagerman

Dexter won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Friday. They lost 64-44 to the Hagerman Bobcats. The Demons were down 48-28 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Dexter's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Matthias Salas, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 boards. Salas is becoming a predictor of Dexter's success: when he posts at least eight rebounds the team is 2-1 (and 2-8 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Cj Granados, who posted 12 points and eight boards.

Even though they lost, Dexter smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

Dexter's loss dropped their record down to 4-9. As for Hagerman, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-3.

Dexter wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 62-53 defeat against Cobre on the 18th. As for Hagerman, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 65-63 loss against New Mexico Military Institute on the 18th.
