Recap: Latta Vikings vs. East Clarendon Wolverines

The Latta Vikings suffered their biggest loss since December 14, 2023 on Tuesday. They suffered a tough 55-29 defeat at the hands of East Clarendon. Latta was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as East Clarendon apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

When it comes to explaining why Latta lost, one person who can't be blamed is Shawniza Bethea. Despite the final result, she scored ten points along with two steals. Bethea is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season.

Latta struggled to work together and finished the game with only an assist. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.

East Clarendon was led to victory by Hayden White and Cherish Cochran. White scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and four steals, while Cochran scored 26 points along with two steals. Cochran hasn't dropped below two steals for nine straight games. Another player making a difference was Jasmyne Lloyd, who scored six points along with seven rebounds.

Latta's defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-9. As for East Clarendon, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 14-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Latta will challenge Lake View at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Lake View presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Latta in South Carolina (Lake View is ranked 69th, while Latta is ranked 205th). As for East Clarendon, they will head out on the road to take on Scott's Branch at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
