Soccer Game Preview: Chatham vs. Nelson County

The Chatham Cavaliers will head out on the road to challenge the Nelson County Governors at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Chatham is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Appomattox County just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Friday. They fell 3-1 to the Raiders.

Meanwhile, Nelson County put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their undefeated season alive. They were the clear victors by a 7-2 margin over Galileo. Nelson County might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by three goals or more this season.

Their offense was hitting Galileo from everywhere, as six different players booted in a goal. Jairo Chavez led that balanced group of strikers and accounted for two goals all by himself.

Nelson County's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-0-2. Those road wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 26 goals over those five matchups. As for Chatham, their loss dropped their record down to 4-6-1.

Chatham suffered a grim 8-0 defeat to Nelson County when the teams last played back in April. Can the Cavaliers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
