Softball Recap: Cole Takes a Loss

Cole extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping them down to 5-19. They lost 12-0 to the Jourdanton Indians. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Cougars of the 12-4 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2025.

As for Jourdanton, they pushed their record up to 19-5-2 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games.

For Jourdanton's part, Jill Martinez made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Martinez has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Jourdanton got a massive performance out of Laney Briones, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Megan Salazar was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Cole is set to square off against their familiar foe Marion at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Jourdanton will take on rival Randolph at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
