League recap: Northeast extends winning streak with victory over Tarpon Springs

Northeast extended the longest winning streak in 7A District 9 this week by beating Tarpon Springs, 41-37. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.

Clearwater moved up to 376 from 414 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. A 34-0 win over Dixie Hollins helped the Tornadoes improve their standing.

Northeast's dynamic duo of Ryan Davis and Keith Harrington proved tough for the Spongers to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Davis threw for 346 yards and six touchdowns and Harrington had 170 yards receiving. Donterio Fowler helped Northeast's passing attack out by catching four balls for 90 yards.

Deangelo Reaves was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 159 yards on 21 carries as St. Petersburg defeated Tarpon Springs. Anthony Foster also contributed to the rushing game with 32 yards on the ground.

Northeast's Davis and Harrington have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 7A District 9 in both passing and receiving yards. Davis has thrown for 1129 yards this season, while Harrington has 19 catches for 425 yards. The Green Devils' Reaves leads the league in rushing yards with 381.

The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Northeast takes on second place Countryside. Last week, the Vikings topped Ron Hawn's team, while Countryside defeated Palm Harbor University.

There should be lots of points scored when Northeast and the Cougars face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Vikings comes in having scored 134 this season, while Countryside has scored 140. Northeast scored 41 points last week as it topped the Spongers.

The Vikings and Tarpon Springs played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with the Vikings eventually emerging with a 41-37 victory. Davis ran for 58 yards in the win.
