Recap: Burke County Bears vs. Islands Sharks
The Burke County Bears can now show off eight landslide victories after their most recent contest on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 82-60 margin over Islands. Given Burke County's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 145th, while Islands is ranked 361st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Burke County to victory, but perhaps none more so than La'Quinton Morgan, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten assists. Another player making a difference was Derrick Streetman, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds.
Islands lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Braylen Butterworth, who scored 20 points along with six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Cave, who scored 20 points along with two steals.
Burke County's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-4. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.5 points per game. As for Islands, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-9.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Burke County won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Jenkins County at 7:30 p.m. on January 20th. One thing working in Jenkins County's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four matchups. Islands will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Benedictine at 7:00 p.m. on January 23rd.
