Softball Recap: Franklin County Tech Beats Hopkins Academy for Their Seventh Straight Win

Franklin County Tech had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it seven on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 win over the Hopkins Academy Golden Hawks. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Eagles have posted since April 14th.

Hannah Gilbert was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Gilbert wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kylee Gamache, who went 1-for-4 with one RBI.

Franklin County Tech's win was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-3. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for Hopkins Academy, they moved to 3-2 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Looking ahead, Franklin County Tech will head out to face off against Frontier Regional at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Red Hawks have averaged an impressive 10.1 runs per game this season. As for Hopkins Academy, they will be playing at home against Pioneer Valley Regional at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
