Football Recap: Tipton Takes a Loss

After flying high against Lafayette Central Catholic last Friday, Tipton came back down to earth. The Blue Devils fell 26-13 to the Hamilton Heights Huskies on Friday. The Blue Devils haven't had much luck with the Huskies recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Although Tipton took the loss, they still got scores from Quinn Tolle and Izayah Mahaney.

While Tipton came up short, they sure didn't make it easy for Hamilton Heights: they limited their QB to completion percentage of just 39.3%. The team can thank Tolle for the heroic effort on defense: he. Sadly, that's becoming something of a trend for Tipton; they were averaging 61.6%completion percentage earlier this season, but in their last three matchups they've fallen to only 61.6%.

Most of the squad's points came courtesy of special teams, who contributed seven in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Mahaney, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

Hamilton Heights' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Drew Woodruff led the charge by throwing for 229 yards and one TD, while also rushing for 34 yards and one score. Those 34 rushing yards gave Woodruff a new career-high. AJ Flanagan was another key back, rushing for 123 yards and one touchdown.

Tipton's loss dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Hamilton Heights, the victory also got them back to even at 4-4.

Tipton didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 55-0 win against Benton Central on the 17th. As for Hamilton Heights, they have also already played their next contest, a 24-8 defeat against West Lafayette on the 17th.
