Baseball Game Preview: Hedgesville Eagles vs. GVCS Broadfording Lions

The Hedgesville Eagles will take on the GVCS Broadfording Lions at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

On Tuesday, Hedgesville made easy work of South Hagerstown and carried off a 10-1 win. With that victory, the Eagles brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Landon Pence was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out 12 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). Those 12 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.

In other batting news, Cason Plaugher was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Noah Brown was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Hedgesville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last game, GVCS Broadfording made sure to put some runs up on the board against Hancock on Friday. The Lions blew past the Panthers 13-4. The win continues a trend for the Lions in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won four in a row.

Hedgesville pushed their record up to 15-8 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for GVCS Broadfording, they now have a winning record of 11-10.
