Baseball Recap: Sussex Academy Takes a Loss

Sussex Academy had lost three straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 3-7 to make it four. They fell just short of the Woodbridge Raiders by a score of 3-1. The match marked the Seahawks' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

As for Woodbridge, they moved to 4-4 with that victory, which also ended their four-game losing streak. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted since May 17, 2024.

For Woodbridge's part, Evan Woodall made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave Woodall a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that he has brought in this season.

Woodall wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Connor Watkins, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sussex Academy will host St. Mark's at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Woodbridge, they will challenge McKean at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Highlanders have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.11 runs per game on average), something the Raiders will no doubt try to take advantage of.
