Preview: Sweeny Bulldogs vs. Stafford Spartans
Sweeny is 0-10 against Stafford since February of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Sweeny Bulldogs will head out on the road to face off against the Stafford Spartans at 6:30 p.m. Sweeny will be strutting in after a victory while Stafford will be coming in after a defeat.
Even though Brazosport scored an imposing 60 points on Tuesday, Sweeny still came out on top. Sweeny took their game against Brazosport 67-60. The win was just what Sweeny needed coming off of a 74-46 defeat in their prior contest.
Sweeny's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Warrick Hernandez led the charge by scoring 19 points along with seven assists and six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Cameron Alexander, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Stafford was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 54-48 to Iowa Colony. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Stafford came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 142nd, while Iowa Colony is ranked 414th).
Sweeny is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a massive bump to their 16-15 record this season. As for Stafford, their loss dropped their record down to 27-6.
Sweeny was dealt a bruising 97-33 defeat at the hands of Stafford in their previous matchup back in January. The matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Sweeny was down 50-21.
