Basketball Recap: Rebeka Wilke's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Seguin over Highlands

Seguin was the 33-26 winner over Highlands when they last played one another back in November of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Seguin Matadors lost to the Highlands Owls on the road by a 43-28 margin on Friday.

Several Matadors players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Rebeka Wilke, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 rebounds. Wilke continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Faith Franklin, who posted seven points and five steals.

Even though they lost, Seguin smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in seven consecutive matches.

Among those leading the charge was Elaya Walker, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds. What's more, she also racked up four blocks, the most she's had since back in January of 2024. Aaliyah Jackson was another key player, putting up six points and three steals.

Seguin's defeat dropped their record down to 12-15. As for Highlands, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-14.

Seguin wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, an 80-40 loss against Burbank on the 7th. As for Highlands, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 48-30 win against Edison on the 7th.
