Softball Recap: Organ Mountain Knights vs. Hobbs Eagles

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Organ Mountain had no problem doing just that on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 win over the Hobbs Eagles. The victory was a breath of fresh air for Organ Mountain as it put an end to their six-game losing streak.

Hannah Justus spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive pitching appearances.

At the plate, Danali Garces was excellent, going 2-for-4 with a triple and a run. The team also got some help courtesy of Leah Melero, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI.

On Hobbs' side, they also let their pitcher toss all eight innings and she was also dialed-in: Destiny Chavarria gave up only one earned run on seven hits and racked up six Ks. Those eight innings set a new season-high mark for her.

On the hitting side, Kandis Harrison made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with a home run.

Organ Mountain's win bumped their record up to 15-12. As for Hobbs, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 21-6.

Organ Mountain will square off against Cibola at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday. Organ Mountain is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.7 runs per game this season. Hobbs does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
