Mitchell and River Ridge are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. After both having extra time off, the two teams will shake off the rust and duke it out at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mitchell is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.
Last Thursday, Mitchell narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Land O' Lakes 6-4. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mustangs.
Taylor Tucker was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on MacKenzie Tucker, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Madyson Whitaker, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and one triple.
Meanwhile, River Ridge fell victim to Steinbrenner and their airtight pitching crew last Thursday. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Warriors. The Royal Knights have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
River Ridge saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Taylor Hopstad, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one double. That double marked the first that Hopstad hit this season.
Mitchell pushed their record up to 10-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for River Ridge, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-5.
River Ridge's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Mitchell hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .355. It's a different story for River Ridge, though, as they've only averaged .237. Will they be able to contain Mitchell's hitters?
