League recap: Amherst tops Axtell to extend winning streak

D2 District 6 (8 Man) recap October 22, 2013

Amherst added to the longest winning streak in D2 District 6 (8 Man) this week by beating Axtell, 69-28. The victory was the seventh in a row for the Broncos.

Shelton took down Kenesaw 56-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.

The Wildcats' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Parker Sis threw for 70 yards and Adam Lundeen had 20 yards receiving. On the ground Dakota Klingsporn chipped in 142 yards. Cody Nickel helped Axtell's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 29 yards.

Wyatt Woodman was a key player and the best on defense this week as the Blue Devils fell to the Bulldogs. He racked up 1 sack.

Klingsporn provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Axtell lost to Amherst. Klingsporn's favorite target this week was Lundeen, who caught 2 passes for 20 yards.

Klingsporn was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 23 carries, he ran for 142 yards as Bryan Becker's team fell to Ron Evans' team. Nickel also contributed to the rushing game with 90 yards on the ground.

The leading receiver in the league this season is Woodman. The Kenesaw star has 7 catches for 246 yards.

Next week's game between the Wildcats and Kenesaw will feature a good passing match up as Sis will test his arm against Austin Schnitzler's defensive ability. So far this year Axtell's Sis has 494 yards and 4 touchdowns to his credit, while Schnitzler has notched 2 interceptions for Craig Schnitzler's team.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Lawrence-Nelson takes on the Broncos. As it stands, the Raiders are in third, while Amherst is in first.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Lawrence-Nelson takes on the Broncos. Brian Blevins' team has allowed 84 points this season, while Amherst has given up 72.

The Wildcats made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 953 from 1,018. The advance stemmed from a 69-28 victory over Axtell last week.
