Baseball Recap: Ripley Tigers vs. Haywood Tomcats
Ripley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They came up short against the Haywood Tomcats, falling 15-9. The Tigers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Tomcats apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.
Alex Caldwell put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in earned runs (zero). He was even better at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, Jaykob Dewalt made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Gerald Thomas also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen bases of the season.
Ripley's record is now 3-10. As for Haywood, they moved to 4-14 with that victory, which also ended their nine-game losing streak.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ripley will venture away from home to challenge Gibson County at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Haywood, they will head out to square off against Jackson North Side at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
