Volleyball Recap: Esparto Starts Season with Loss at Home

Esparto unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Buckingham Charter Knights on Tuesday. The Spartans have struggled against the Knights recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

The match finished with set scores of 25-22, 25-15, 19-25, 25-16.

Buckingham Charter got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Addelyn Widmer out in front who had 12 kills, seven blocks, and four aces. Widmer is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now had two or more in each of the last 11 games she's played dating back to last season. Justice Wright was another key player, getting ten aces and one block.

Looking ahead, Esparto is taking a road trip to challenge Futures at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Buckingham Charter, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 3-1 defeat against Sacramento Waldorf on the 22nd.
