Recap: Wharton Wildcats vs. Robinson Knights

The Wharton Wildcats posted their closest win yet this season on Friday. They had just enough and edged Robinson out 41-38. Given Wharton's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 91st, while Robinson is ranked 219th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Wharton's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jayla Grady, who scored 17 points along with five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Grady has scored all season. Nina Green was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with seven rebounds and four steals.

Robinson's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ava Godfrey, who scored 14 points along with two steals. Godfrey has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Jennie Gutman, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds.

Wharton's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.7 points per game. As for Robinson, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wharton will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Hillsborough at 6:30 p.m. on January 23rd.
