Softball Recap: Ovid-Elsie Has No Trouble Against Montrose

Ovid-Elsie hadn't done well against Montrose recently (they were 1-7 in their previous eight matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Marauders blew past the Rams 9-2. For the Marauders, this counts as revenge for the 5-0 win the Rams walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Audrie VanDeusen made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Haley McClung was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.4 stolen bases per game. Another player making a difference was Mercades Grieder, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double.

Ovid-Elsie kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

The victory made it two in a row for Ovid-Elsie and bumps their season record up to 2-3. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Montrose, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 0-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ovid-Elsie will host Lumen Christi Catholic at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Titans' pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so the Marauders' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Montrose, they will welcome Birch Run at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
