Basketball Recap: Marian Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Ehud Tesfaye and Mathias Baye

After flying high against Varsity Opponent on Friday, Marian came back down to earth. The Marian Eagles lost to the Empowering Others Prep Kings on the road by a 61-47 margin on Saturday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Eagles came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 94th, while the Kings are ranked 294th).

Marian's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Mathias Baye, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 15 rebounds, and Ehud Tesfaye, who posted 13 points. Another player making a difference was Malik Whitfield, who had six points and five boards.

Marian's defeat dropped their record down to 21-7. As for Empowering Others Prep, the victory got them back to even at 13-13.

Marian does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Empowering Others Prep, they will square off against St. John's at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. St. John's will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Empowering Others Prep surely won't give up without a fight.
