Baseball Game Preview: Smoky Mountain Mustangs vs. David Crockett Pioneers

The Smoky Mountain Mustangs will take on the David Crockett Pioneers in a tournament on Thursday.

Smoky Mountain saw some tournament action on Wednesday. They took a 13-10 hit to the loss column at the hands of Tennessee. That's two games in a row now that the Mustangs have lost by exactly three runs.

The home team had come away the winner the last seven times David Crockett and Unicoi County had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Pioneers came out on top against the Blue Devils by a score of 4-1 on Tuesday.

Aj Ford spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on six hits and racked up nine Ks. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because David Crockett is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 7-13 otherwise.

On the hitting side, David Crockett's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Nolan Street, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases. That's the most stolen bases Street has posted since back in March. Marcus Greenway was another, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.

This is the second loss in a row for Smoky Mountain and nudges their season record down to 11-6. As for David Crockett, their win bumped their record up to 9-14.
