Baseball Game Preview: St. John's Islanders vs. Bridges Prep Buccaneers

The St. John's Islanders will head out on the road to square off against the Bridges Prep Buccaneers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. St. John's is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.

St. John's had taken Lowcountry Leadership down for three straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Monday. The Islanders came up short against the NaviGators, falling 19-9. The Islanders have struggled against the NaviGators recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.

Micah Davison was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of St. John's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 5-1 (and 4-5 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Antonio Hernandez, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Bridges Prep didn't have quite enough to beat Coastal HomeSchool on Wednesday and fell 4-2.

Tavin Almendarez put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. Almendarez was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

St. John's loss dropped their record down to 9-6. As for Bridges Prep, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-6.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. St. John's has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Bridges Prep struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
