Baseball Recap: Octorara Area Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Donegal, Octorara Area was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 victory over the Garden Spot Spartans. This was a revenge game for the Braves: when they faced off against the Spartans on April 6th, they had to take a 9-3 loss.

Camryn Naggy made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits (and only one walk). Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run.

In other batting news, Mason Hanby and Logan Smith did most of the damage at the plate: Hanby went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double, while Smith got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave Hanby a new career-high. Jonathan Palmos was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Octorara Area's win bumped their record up to 4-10. As for Garden Spot, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Octorara Area will take on Solanco at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. As for Garden Spot, they will face off against Warwick at 4:15 p.m. on Friday.
