Baseball Recap: Cresskill's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Friday

Cresskill dropped their record down to 7-5-1 on Friday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They took an 11-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Midland Park Panthers. The Cougars were not able to make up for their defeat to the Panthers from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

Tyler Manarang put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over four innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off four hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since April 1st. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. That home run was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Luke Kopczynski was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.

As for Midland Park, their victory bumped their record up to 7-3-1. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their two-run performance the game before.

On Midland Park's side, Chase Shortway was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. That's the most runs Shortway has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Fleming, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Cresskill will head out to challenge Ridgefield Park at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Midland Park, they will challenge Secaucus at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday.
