Preview: Highland Park Scots vs. Washington Wildcats
Highland Park is 1-0 against Washington since October of 2022, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Highland Park Scots will stay at home for another week and welcome the Washington Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on October 20th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Kansas (Highland Park is ranked 151st, while Washington is ranked 158th).
Last Thursday, Highland Park got themselves on the board against Northeast, but Northeast never followed suit. They blew past the Vikings 36-0 at home. The result was nothing new for Highland Park, who have now won three matches by 26 points or more so far this season.
Highland Park's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jamon Wilson, who picked up 50 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Amari Taylor was another key contributor, picking up 86 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Highland Park's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB five times. Leading the way was Elijah Thomas and his two sacks.
Meanwhile, Washington was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 20-14 to Schlagle.
Highland Park has been no stranger to the win column this season, as they've started out with wins in six of their first seven matchups, giving them a 6-1 record. As for Washington, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 4-3.
Highland Park strolled past Washington in their previous matchup back in October of 2022 by a score of 62-48. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Washington's Johvonte' Ross, who rushed for 225 yards and four touchdowns. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be that much easier for Highland Park to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
