Basketball Recap: Mifflin Punchers vs. East Tigers
The Mifflin Punchers won the last time they faced the East Tigers, and things went their way on Friday too. Mifflin managed a 60-54 victory over the Tigers. That's two games straight that Mifflin has won by exactly six points.
Mifflin was led to victory by Tariq Johnson and John Glover. Johnson scored 19 points along with eight rebounds and two steals, while Glover scored 18 points along with six rebounds and five assists. Glover has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Mike Woodyard, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Despite the defeat, East had strong showings from Messiah Hope, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds, and Sean Wilkes, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds. Antwain Reedus was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with three steals.
The win makes it two in a row for Mifflin and bumps their season record up to 7-11. As for East, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-14.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mifflin won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Bears at 5:00 p.m. on February 3rd. Olentangy Berlin presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Punchers in Ohio (the Bears are ranked 176th, while the Punchers are ranked 570th). As for East, they will head out on the road to face off against the Lions at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Columbus International is on a seven-game streak of home losses, the Tigers a 19-game streak of away losses (dating back to last season), but someone's luck is about to change.
