Baseball Game Preview: Pueblo County Hornets vs. Severance Silver Knights

Pueblo County is on an eight-game streak of home wins, while Severance is on an eight-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Hornets will welcome the Silver Knights at 9:30 a.m. on Friday. Pueblo County's pitching crew has only allowed 1.6 runs per game this season, so Severance's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Pueblo County is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They never let Roosevelt get on the board and left with a 1-0 victory.

Not much got past Blake Swift, who gave up just four hits and racked up nine Ks to keep Roosevelt off the board. Swift has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances.

Pueblo County hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Roosevelt struck out nine times.

Meanwhile, Severance was able to grind out a solid win over Holy Family on Saturday, taking the game 6-3.

Declan Moylett made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He pitched 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Moylett was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run.

Moylett wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kolton Beidleman, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. Tyler Ewoniuk was another, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Severance is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.9 runs on average over those games. As for Pueblo County, their win bumped their record up to 23-2.

Pueblo County beat Severance 10-5 in their previous matchup back in March. Will the Hornets repeat their success, or do the Silver Knights have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
