Preview: Wakefield School Fighting Owls vs. Shenandoah Valley Academy Stars
Wakefield School is 0-3 against Shenandoah Valley Academy since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Wakefield School Fighting Owls 's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Shenandoah Valley Academy Stars at 4:00 p.m. on January 23rd. Wakefield School's defense has only allowed 15.1 points per game this season, so Shenandoah Valley Academy's offense will have their work cut out for them.
Last Thursday, Wakefield School didn't have too much trouble with Foxcroft on the road as they won 27-12. Given Wakefield School's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 106th, while Foxcroft is ranked 280th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Wakefield School's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ceci Turner led the charge by scoring seven points along with ten steals. Turner is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last eight games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Aya Mason, who scored six points along with seven rebounds and five blocks.
Meanwhile, Shenandoah Valley Academy's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They took a 48-30 bruising from Valley Thunder Homeschool.
Wakefield School's win was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-0. As for Shenandoah Valley Academy, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 0-3.
Wakefield School might still be hurting after the 42-21 loss they got from Shenandoah Valley Academy in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Can Wakefield School avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
