Preview: Elmira Express vs. Auburn Maroons
The Elmira Express will head out on the road to take on the Auburn Maroons at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Elmira will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
Last Thursday, Elmira strolled past Corning-Painted Post with points to spare, taking the game 54-39. Given Elmira's advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 204th, while Corning-Painted Post is ranked 474th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Elmira's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Mariah Matias, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 15 rebounds, and Ellie Clearwater, who scored 20 points along with six steals. Matias is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down ten or more in the last 15 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Caitlyn Wagner, who scored four points along with eight rebounds.
Meanwhile, things could have been worse for Auburn, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 70-52 loss to Baldwinsville back in January.
Elmira's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-8. As for Auburn, their loss dropped their record down to 6-5.
