Baseball Recap: Sam Rayburn Triumphs

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Whitewright, Sam Rayburn was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They walked away with a 10-7 win over the Dodd City Hornets. The victory continues a trend for the Rebels in their matchups with the Hornets: they've now won six in a row.

Cash Mason and Booker Binford made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Mason pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Binford didn't allow a single earned run over 4.1 innings pitched. Mason also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Sam Rayburn is undefeated when he allows at most two earned runs, but 3-5 otherwise. At the plate, Mason went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run, while Binford got on base in two of his five plate appearances with two RBI. Those two RBI gave Binford a new career-high.

In other batting news, Jaxson Throneberry was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with four runs and two stolen bases. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jamison Dorris, who went 1-for-5 with one home run and two RBI.

Sam Rayburn's win bumped their record up to 7-5. As for Dodd City, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Sam Rayburn will square off against rival Collinsville at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Dodd City is set to face off against their familiar foe Savoy at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
