Baseball Recap: Highland Gets the Win

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Highland ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They won by a run and slipped past the Canyon Ridge Riverhawks 5-4. The win continues a trend for the Rams in their matchups with the Riverhawks: they've now won four in a row.

Porter Burrows tossed a big game, pitching six innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five).

On the hitting side, Highland's victory was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Lana Alvarico, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

Highland's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-8. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Canyon Ridge, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-12.

Highland will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Riverhawks: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
