Baseball Recap: Canyon Snags Fifth Win in Last Six Games

Canyon came out on top against Yorba Linda on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run first inning. The Comanches took their game against the Mustangs 7-2. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 8-7 back in March.

Canyon got a great performance from Kemuel Zhang as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over 5.2 innings pitched. Zhang has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Cooper Stevenson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Kyle Nulph also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Canyon hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Yorba Linda struck out eight times.

Canyon is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.7 runs over those games. As for Yorba Linda, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-14 record this season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Canyon beat Yorba Linda by a score of 6-5 on Friday.
