Softball Recap: Ballard Picks Up Eighth Straight Win at Home

Ballard waltzed into their match on Thursday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They put the hurt on the Nelson County Cardinals with a sharp 8-1 win. The Bruins might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 15 games by six runs or more this season.

Jaedyn Lyons and Emery Schuster made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Lyons tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Meanwhile, Schuster tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Lyons has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances. At the plate, Lyons went 1-for-2 with two RBI, while Schuster went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Kennedy Gatewood was excellent, earning two runs and four stolen bases. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Aubrie Newton, who earned two runs and two stolen bases.

Ballard pushed their record up to 21-10 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Nelson County, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 20-8-1.

Ballard has already played their next contest, an 11-6 victory against Elizabethtown on the 17th. Nelson County has also already played their next match (against Fern Creek), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
