Baseball Recap: Palestine-Wheatley Takes a Loss

Palestine-Wheatley was the 14-1 winner over Newport when they last played one another back in April of 2019, but their luck changed this time around. The Palestine-Wheatley Patriots fell just short of the Newport Greyhounds by a score of 5-4 on Friday. The Patriots have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Jacob Hickman put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games he's played.

Hickman wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Maddox Hoggatt, who scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-3. Brody Parker was another, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

Palestine-Wheatley's defeat dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Newport, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 5-1.

Looking ahead, Palestine-Wheatley will face off against England at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Newport, they will challenge Wynne at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
