Basketball Recap: Brighton Comes Up Short

It was a good run, but Brighton unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Thursday. They were dealt an 83-40 loss at the hands of the West Panthers. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bengals this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 63-44 back in January.

Brighton's loss came despite strong showings from Olivia Stephens and Sophie Nielsen. Stephens went 7 for 14 en route to 19 points, while Nielsen posted nine points and five boards. Stephens continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.

Fina Tuha was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds for West. With that strong performance, Tuha is now averaging an impressive 8.1 boards per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Kylee Falatea, who almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine assists.

Brighton's defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-7. As for West, the win keeps them at an undefeated 17-0.

Brighton didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 67-24 victory against Highland on the 31st. As for West, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 61-44 win against Alta on the 31st.
