Basketball Recap: Smithson Valley Snaps Six-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

Smithson Valley can bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They had just enough and edged the Boerne-Champion Chargers out 46-44. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Rangers have posted since November 22, 2024.

Smithson Valley's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Cyanna Cavazos, who went 6 of 14 on her way to 18 points in addition to seven boards and five assists. The contest was Cavazos' third in a row with at least ten points. Aliya Murphy was another key player, putting up nine points and six rebounds.

Smithson Valley's victory ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 9-17. As for Boerne-Champion, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 15-12 record this season.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Alamo Heights the next time they take the court. Smithson Valley will host Alamo Heights at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while Boerne-Champion will head out to face them at 6:30 p.m. on January 17th.
