Basketball Recap: Caprock Academy Takes a Loss

Caprock Academy suffered their biggest defeat since January 23, 2024 on Tuesday. They took a blow against the Plateau Valley Cowboys, falling 65-34. The matchup marked the Eagles' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Justin Hardies and Dayton Freeman certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Hardies posted 12 points, while Freeman had four points. The dominant performance also gave Freeman a new career-high in assists (two).

Plateau Valley had a senior duo take command as Jackson Bevan almost dropped a double-double on 22 points and nine rebounds and Jack Vig went 7 for 10 on his way to 16 points in addition to seven assists and six boards. Those 22 points set a new season-high mark for Bevan. Cody Gutierrez was another key player, putting up 11 points.

This is the second loss in a row for Caprock Academy and nudges their season record down to 4-6. As for Plateau Valley, the victory (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 9-1.

Caprock Academy has already played their next contest, a 50-42 win against Rangely on the 16th. As for Plateau Valley, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 55-14 victory against West Grand on the 18th.
