            Baseball Preview: Poplarville Hornets vs. Purvis Tornadoes        
        
		
        
        
            The Poplarville Hornets will venture away from home to  challenge the Purvis Tornadoes  at 2:00  p.m.  on Saturday. Poplarville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1  runs per game  this season.
Poplarville came up short against  Hattiesburg on Thursday, falling  16-8. The Hornets have struggled against the Tigers recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meetings.

 Brock Sheppard was cooking despite his team's loss,   scoring three  runs and  stealing  Three bases. while  getting on base  in all four of his plate appearances. Those  three  stolen bases gave  him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of  Trac Smith, who  went 1-for-2 with two  RBI and one  double.
 Even though they lost, Poplarville  hit smart and  finished the game with only two  strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now  struck out at most five  strikeouts in eight consecutive  matches.
 Meanwhile, Purvis lost  9-3 to Tri-County Academy on Friday. The Tornadoes have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
 The  defeat was their first  on the road , dropping their record down to 12-4. As for Poplarville, their loss dropped their record down to 8-6.
 Poplarville couldn't quite get it done against Purvis in their previous meeting  back in March of 2023 as they fell  8-3. Can Poplarville avenge their  defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
