Softball Game Preview: Monomoy Sharks vs. St. John Paul II Lions

Monomoy is a perfect 10-0 against St. John Paul II since May of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Sharks will be playing in front of their home fans against the Lions at 4:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

St. John Paul II will be up against a hot Monomoy squad: the team just extended their winning streak to nine. Everything went the Sharks' way against Nantucket on Monday as they made off with a 22-5 victory.

Kinsey Lister made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, firing off two home runs and six RBI while going 2-for-4. Those home runs were her first of the season.

In other batting news, Willa Leighton was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with six RBI, three runs, and two doubles. Those doubles marked the first that she has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Bella Bellefeuille, who went 2-for-5 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Monomoy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .558. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.

St. John Paul II never got on the board in their matchup on Thursday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Mashpee on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 21-8 margin over the Falcons. The Lions haven't had any issues with the Falcons recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Monomoy pushed their record up to 9-0 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 20.6 runs over those games. As for St. John Paul II, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.

Everything went Monomoy's way against St. John Paul II in their previous matchup back in May of 2022, as Monomoy made off with a 16-0 win. Do the Sharks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lions turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
