Tupelo is on a six-game streak of home wins, while Oxford is on an eight-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The Golden Wave will challenge the Chargers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 832 yards in their previous games.
Tupelo is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They came out on top against Germantown by a score of 35-28. The score was all tied up 14-14 at the break, but the Golden Wave were the better team in the second half.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Tupelo to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jaeden Hill, who rushed for 158 yards and two scores on only 13 carries. Hill's longest rush was for an impressive 60 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Tupelo also got a significant boost from Braylen Williams, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 106 yards.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Tupelo was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 397 rushing yards. They rushed for 175 more rushing yards than Germantown's also-impressive total of 222.

Another reason for the win was Tupelo's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for six sacks. Kaiden Buchanan was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up three himself. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 5.1 total tackles per game. Tupelo got some further help from Tyson Hunter: he picked up a sack, forced one fumble, and made 15 total tackles (2.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, Oxford faced Horn Lake in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Chargers walked away with a 37-27 win over the Eagles.
Tupelo better focus on containing Knox Kiffin and Demar Jamerson as the pair were huge in Oxford's win. Kiffin rushed for 76 yards and one TD on only eight carries, while Jamerson gained 151 total yards and a touchdown. Those 76 rushing yards gave Kiffin a new career-high.
Tupelo's record is now 12-1. As for Oxford, their record now sits at 11-1.
Friday's game will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Kylan Bobo and Jamerson. Bobo just won't slow down this season and has run in 25 touchdowns while averaging 120.8 rushing yards per game. Jamerson has been a dominant force too and has run in 15 touchdowns while averaging 83.2 rushing yards per game.
Tupelo was able to grind out a solid victory over Oxford in their previous matchup back in September, winning 20-13. Will the Golden Wave repeat their success, or do the Chargers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
