Volleyball Game Preview: Lutheran Cougars vs. St. Dominic Crusaders

Lutheran is 0-8 against St. Dominic since April of 2021 but things could change on Wednesday. Lutheran will square off against St. Dominic at 6:00 p.m.

On Tuesday, Lutheran didn't have quite enough to beat Fort Zumwalt South and fell 3-2. The loss put an end to the Cougars' undefeated start to the season.

Lutheran wouldn't go down easily and took Fort Zumwalt South into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking seven-point loss. The match finished with set scores of 15-25, 25-20, 23-25, 25-11, 15-8.

Lutheran's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Oliver Bertel, who had nine digs, and Rylan Versemann, who had 14 digs and seven kills. That's the most digs Bertel has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Dylan Edson, who had 12 digs.

Meanwhile, St. Dominic had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They walked away with a 3-1 victory over North Point on Tuesday.

St. Dominic had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. The final score came out to 18-25, 25-22, 25-9, 25-22.

Having lost for the first time this season, Lutheran fell to 2-1. As for St. Dominic, their win bumped their record up to 1-0.

Lutheran couldn't quite get it done against St. Dominic in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 as they fell 3-1. Can Lutheran avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
