Basketball Recap: Waldron Takes a Loss

If Waldron was riding high fresh off their 63-24 takedown of Southwestern last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Waldron Mohawks were beaten by the Triton Central Tigers 68-30 on Monday. The Mohawks were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 43-19.

Waldron's loss came despite strong showings from Emerson Lindsey and Alivia Fischer. Lindsey posted three points in addition to seven assists and four steals, while Fischer went 6 of 13 on her way to 17 points. Lindsey is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played.

They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Waldron was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. This was only their ninth loss (out of 14 games) when they've passed the ball that well.

Triton Central was led to victory by Maryrose Felling and Quinn King. Felling earned 23 points along with six assists and six boards, while King made all 5 shots she took for 13 points and three steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Felling has scored at least a third of Triton Central's points. Sophia Burbrink was another key player, putting up nine points.

Waldron has traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last ten matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season. As for Triton Central, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-6.

Waldron wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 46-33 defeat against South Decatur on the 16th. As for Triton Central, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 47-29 loss against New Palestine on the 14th.
