Preview: Smyrna Bulldogs vs. LaVergne Wolverines
The Smyrna Bulldogs and the LaVergne Wolverines will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 26th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
Smyrna pushed their score all the way to 55 on Wednesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 68-55 to Lebanon.
Despite the loss, Smyrna had strong showings from Ze'keice Mccarver, who scored 24 points along with three steals, and Tyreque Mccarver, who scored 13 points along with six assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Mccarver has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Kaleil Lyons, who scored four points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, after a string of five wins, LaVergne's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They took a 79-68 hit to the loss column at the hands of Cookeville. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Smyrna has been struggling recently, as they've lost 11 of their last 13 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season. As for LaVergne, their loss dropped their record down to 15-5.
Smyrna came up short against LaVergne when the teams last played back in February of 2023, falling 55-46. Can Smyrna avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
