The El Capitan Eagles will face off against the Ash Fork/Seligman Spartans at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. El Capitan is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.8 runs per game this season.
While El Capitan's win against St. Michael wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. El Capitan had just enough and edged out St. Michael 4-3 on Saturday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Eagles.
Paul Woods was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Woods was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. El Capitan is undefeated when Woods posts two or more runs, but 2-5 otherwise.

In other batting news, Jairus Hammon was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two stolen bases. He has become a key player for El Capitan: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 1-5 otherwise.
Meanwhile, Ash Fork/Seligman had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Northland Prep Academy as they made off with a 17-2 victory. Ash Fork/Seligman might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by ten runs or more this season.
Like El Capitan, Ash Fork/Seligman also got a great game from a two-way player: Branson Milius. On the mound, he struck out 11 batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Milius has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gabriel Mueller, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February of 2024. John Cauthen was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-3.
Ash Fork/Seligman was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Ash Fork/Seligman's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.5 runs over those games. As for El Capitan, their win bumped their record up to 7-5.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. El Capitan has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .565. However, it's not like Ash Fork/Seligman struggles in that department as they've averaged .558. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
